Faculty of Computer Science is carrying out research in three research groups, namely Information and Database Systems Engineering (IDSE), Knowledge and Data (KRDB) and Software and Systems Engineering (SwSE).

The members participating in the COCkPiT project belong to the KRDB research group which is focusing on two main areas: (1) intelligent data and information management, with emphasis on data modelling and on the challenges related to dealing with complex and big data; and (2) business processes and data, with the aim of studying the entire process lifecycle including the modelling of business processes and organizations.

Faculty of Science and Technology focuses on research in the fields of industrial innovation, automation energy efficiency as well as mountain-specific technology and food science and technology.

The members participating in the COCkPiT project belong to the Industrial Engineering & Automation (IEA) research group, which among other topics carries out research in the domain of automation and digitization techniques in the context of Industry 4.0 with a focus on the specific requirements of small and medium manufacturing, construction and agricultural businesses.

The Fraunhofer Italia Research s.c.a.r.l. was founded December 21, 2009 by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (Fraunhofer Society) with its first research center located in Bolzano, the Fraunhofer Innovation Engineering Center IEC.

Fraunhofer Italia’s competence team “Process Engineering in Construction” (PEC), responsible for the COCkPiT-project, explores concrete methods and strategies for the stabilization and optimization of planning and construction processes. The objective is to increase the productivity and the structural quality from the first draft to the finalization of the building, both in new construction and in renovation projects. The team adapts two research approaches: On one hand the organizational structure of construction processes based on lean management principles (avoid wastage, increase value) and on the other hand the implementation of innovative information and communication technologies to support the integral cooperation of all stakeholders in construction projects.
